Food Services/Clinical Dietetics

USH Internships

Description

The Utah State Hospital Food Service/Clinical Dietetics department wants to help prepare dietetic students to enter the field of nutrition and dietetics. We feel that our hospital provides a unique perspective that is not available in most locations.

You will have the opportunity to work with registered dietitians, diet technicians, food service manager/supervisors and chefs; as well as, interdisciplinary staff and patients. You may teach classes, do individual diet assessment and education, chart on patients, develop new recipes/menu items, and give staff in-services. We can accommodate both clinical and food service rotations year round.

While the conditions surrounding the mental illness of our patients are the reason they have been admitted to our facility, we also are involved in the medical nutrition therapy of conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and eating disorders. Occasionally we see cancer, tube feeding, and kidney disease. Many students have a sub-acute hospital rotation elsewhere.

We have contracts with several area schools and can set up a contract with your school if needed.
